Valencia is located at the mid point of the Spanish east Mediterranean coast, 350 kms east of Madrid and 350 kms south of Barcelona. It is a cosmopolitan city, its openess making it the meeting point of various civilizations over the years. Today, due to its privileged geographical situation and its extensive infrastructure, Valencia is easily accessible and well connected to the important Spanish and European capitals |
Ranked as Spains third urban center, Valence is an ancient town, over 2000
years old, which still preserves its gothic architecture together with the different
landscape zones of the Mediterranean Coast: coastline and mountains.
The Visigothic monarchy was unified in the 6th Century, and Valence was subjected to Muslim domination for centuries. During this period of time, the Valencian people fought continuously for the recovery of their democracy to establish the present Autonomous Community. During the 15th Century and a great part of the 16th, Valence was one of the major economic powers in the Mediterranean, a period that coincides with the "Valencian golden age". Known as the city of arts and science, the intense commercial activity dedicated to exports turned Valence into the most traditional town for Fairs and Congresses in Spain. The city has several cultural highlights, such as: theatres, museums, palaces, and cathedrals. In each site a very different and interesting architecture can be noticed. Together with these attractions, the Valencian coastline is one of the most beautiful in Spain.
