The paper discusses the aims and the underlying algorithms of an approach to a parallel simulation of continuous systems on a distributed memory machine. The design and the implementation of an experimental general purpose simulator PACOSS on a small transputer network are presented. Some experiences with PACOSS are reported by using a simple well known example.
