ABSTRACT

This paper describes a single chip, MPEG1, Audio and Video decoder optimized for low cost consumer Video CD applications which decodes data streams complying with the current version (2.0) of the Video - CD standard. Features of the standard are summarized and the architecture of a consumer Video CD player based on the single chip decoder is presented.

A summary of decoder features is given with particular emphasis on the decoder features provided for support of Video CD play control lists and "trick modes".


BIOGRAPHY

George Fleming received a batchelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The City University - London in 1968 and is an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He joined the Product Concept and Applications Laboratory of Philips Semiconductors in 1986. Prior to joining the Applications Lab. he was involved in the development of board level TV products for the Electronics Assemblies Division of Philips UK. Currently he is responsible for the Video CD chip specification and evaluation.
