ABSTRACT

Multimedia applications have yet to make a significant bottom-line impact in the retail arena. Parallax's approach to the use of Multimedia at the Point of Sale (MMPoS) seeks to change this. The business relevance of MMPoS depends on its ability to deliver not just information, but also commercial transactions. The technical challenge is solved using an object-oriented, distributed architecture which clearly separates system responsibilities for maximum adaptability. Going beyond primary deployment issues, MMPoS creates the opportunity to align business and technical efforts in the drive towards integrating applications across the value-chain of a retailing operation.
