ABSTRACT

In this paper a new LAN access protocol which has been called Priority and Reservation TDMA (PRTDMA) is introduced and analysed. The algorithm for PRTDMA has been designed to account for LANs with highly asymmetric traffic load distributions and high data transmission rates which will be present in a multimedia environment. Mean delay versus throughput performance characteristics which were obtained using a discrete event computer simulation program are presented. The results show that the objectives for the new protocol have been achieved.
