Abstract: |
Digital Rails
(DR) is a proposal for a system of exclusive lanes intended for autonomous
vehicles. This paper presents the evaluation of this system using macroscopic
traffic metrics, mainly average travel time. The DR system consists of a
network of arterial roads with exclusive lanes where autonomous vehicles can
travel in platoons. We evaluated the impacts of this system on travel time
using mesoscopic traffic simulation and real data from the city of São Paulo
to create the simulation scenarios. The results show that the proposed system
would bring reductions on the average travel time of the city commuters. |
